Indian Passport (Passport Seva Portal)

  • Dimensions: 630 x 810 px (updated September 2025)
  • File size: Under 250 KB
  • Format: JPEG
  • Background: Plain white only
  • Glasses: NOT allowed (ICAO standard enforced 2025)
  • Face coverage: 80-85% of frame

Note: The portal changed from 350x350 square to 630x810 rectangular in 2025. Old square photos are now rejected.

Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar enrollment centers capture photos live during the enrollment process. For online updates:

  • Portal accepts JPEG photos
  • No strict pixel requirements (portal resizes)
  • White background recommended
  • Recent photo (within 6 months)

PAN Card

  • Dimensions: 3.5 x 4.5 cm (approximately 413 x 531 px at 300 DPI)
  • File size: Under 300 KB (NSDL portal)
  • Format: JPEG
  • Background: White or light
  • Signature: Separate upload, similar specs

Driving License (Sarathi/Parivahan Portal)

  • Dimensions: Varies by state portal
  • File size: Generally under 200 KB
  • Format: JPEG
  • Background: White preferred
  • Note: Many states now use live capture at the RTO

Voter ID (NVSP Portal)

  • Dimensions: Passport size (3.5 x 4.5 cm scan)
  • File size: Under 50 KB
  • Format: JPEG
  • Background: White or light

General Tips for Government ID Photos

  1. White background — Universally accepted across all portals
  2. JPEG format — Required by virtually all Indian government systems
  3. Recent photo — Within 3-6 months
  4. Clear face — No glasses (for newer portals), no hats
  5. Professional quality — Phone photos acceptable if well-lit and properly cropped
