How to Fill PDF Forms Online — Without Adobe Acrobat
Fill out, sign, and submit PDF forms using free browser-based tools. No software installation needed.
Types of PDF Forms
Interactive Forms
These have fillable fields — click on a field and type. Most government and business forms use this format.
Flat/Static Forms
These are just images of forms with no fillable fields. You need to add text overlays or print-and-scan.
Filling Interactive PDF Forms
Most modern browsers can fill interactive PDF forms:
- Open the PDF in your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- Click on form fields and type
- Use Print > Save as PDF to flatten the filled form
Adding Signatures to PDFs
Method 1: Type Your Name
Choose a script font to simulate a handwritten signature. Quick but less authentic.
Method 2: Draw Your Signature
Use a touchscreen or mouse to draw your signature. Most professional option.
Method 3: Upload a Signature Image
Sign on white paper, photograph it, crop the signature, and overlay it on the PDF.
Common Issues
- Cannot type in fields — The PDF may be a flat/static form, not interactive
- Fonts look different — The form may require specific fonts not installed on your system
- File size increases — Filled forms are slightly larger than empty ones
- Password protected — Some forms restrict editing until unlocked
Submitting Filled Forms
Before submitting:
- Review all fields for accuracy
- Flatten the form (Print > Save as PDF) to prevent changes
- Check file size meets submission requirements
- Verify the output opens correctly in another PDF viewer
