Aspect Ratio Calculator — Find, Calculate, and Convert Ratios
Calculate aspect ratios for images, videos, and screens. Find equivalent dimensions at any resolution.
What Is Aspect Ratio?
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height. It is expressed as two numbers separated by a colon (e.g., 16:9).
Common Aspect Ratios
| Ratio | Decimal | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | 1.0 | Square (Instagram, profile photos) |
| 4:3 | 1.33 | Standard TV, iPad, most cameras |
| 3:2 | 1.5 | DSLR photos, 35mm film |
| 16:9 | 1.78 | Widescreen TV, YouTube, presentations |
| 16:10 | 1.6 | Widescreen monitors |
| 21:9 | 2.33 | Ultra-wide monitors, cinema |
| 9:16 | 0.56 | Mobile vertical video |
How to Calculate Aspect Ratio
From dimensions: Divide both width and height by their GCD (Greatest Common Divisor).
Example: 1920 x 1080 GCD(1920, 1080) = 120 1920/120 = 16, 1080/120 = 9 Aspect ratio = 16:9
Finding Equivalent Dimensions
If you know one dimension and the aspect ratio, calculate the other:
- Width = Height x (Ratio Width / Ratio Height)
- Height = Width x (Ratio Height / Ratio Width)
Example: What width for 1080px height at 16:9? Width = 1080 x (16/9) = 1920 px
